Diego Gamero

Lasting Impact

Diego Gamero has a long history with Central Community College, which began in 2006 when he enrolled in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at the Lexington Center. At the time, he was working at the Tyson meat plant after relocating from Mexico to Nebraska. Gamero later earned a high school GED and took for-credit courses at the Lexington Center. From there, he enrolled at the Hastings Campus and graduated in 2012 with an associate of arts degree. Two years later, Gamero graduated from the University of Nebraska-Kearney with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish education and with a master’s degree in Spanish education in 2017. He even completed a second master’s degree in curriculum and instruction-English as a second language from UNK three years later. 

Gamero has been employed by Lexington Public Schools since 2015 and has taught college credit courses for his students in the dual language program. He has also given back to the Lexington Center by teaching ESL, adult Spanish and U.S. citizenship classes. Gamero is also working with CCC-Lexington administrators to begin teaching bilingual CPR classes.  

“Giving back to the community is very important for me,” said Gamero. “Once you offer things for the community, your client is the adult and adults have goals and dreams. It’s my passion to help them achieve their goals and dreams.” 

At Lexington High School, Gamero has opened an international door for several students during his tenure with trips to Spanish-speaking countries. In 2017, he led a trip to Costa Rica and a venture to Spain and France in 2022. In 2024, Gamero will take students back to Spain for a tour of the south region.
